Chicago Bears: SS Tavon Wilson (Detroit Lions)

In 2018, first-time NFL head coach Matt Nagy took over in the Windy City. The Chicago Bears finished 12-4 and captured their first division title and playoff berth since 2010. This past season, it was a story of too little, too late as the club rebounded from a slow start and finished 8-8 on the way to third place in the NFC North.

The reasons for the falloff were many and not surprisingly, much of the blame (fair or unfair) was placed on the shoulders of still-learning quarterback Mitch Trubisky. The three-year signal-caller was at the helm of an offense that too often took more than a half of football to find its rhythm. The Bears gained the fourth-fewest total yards in the league and only 28 offensive touchdowns.

Meanwhile, new defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano saw his unit have its struggles as well. Injuries were a big of a factor but there were times that a team that allowed the fewest rushing yards in the league in ‘18 was pushed around on the ground.

A year ago, the Bears wound up with one-time Green Bay Packers’ strong safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Could his replacement be former Lions’ defender Tavon Wilson, who finished second on his club with 92 tackles? He also recovered two fumbles, knocked down five passes and added six special teams stops.
