Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson announce they have coronavirus

Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson were diagnosed with coronavirus in the continuing industry struggle.

The entertainment industry is just one of many that are being affected by the novel coronavirus. First reports surfaced that movie releases would be postponed and now one of America’s most beloved actors has announced he and his wife have been diagnosed with the virus that’s sweeping the world.

Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have confirmed they have been diagnosed with coronavirus.

Deadline was the first to report the news on Wednesday evening after receiving a statement from the famous Hollywood couple who were filing abroad.

Hanks also tweeted a note sharing the news:

"Hello, folks.  Rita and I are down here in Australia.   We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches.   Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too.  To play things right, as is needed in the world right now,  we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive.Well, now.  What to do next?  The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.  Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?We’ll keep the world posted and updated.Take care of yourselves!"

Hanks was in Australia for the filming of Baz Luhrmann’s film about Elvis Presley. Hanks plays Presley’s longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker.

Coronavirus has also influenced the canceling or altering of major sporting events and the cancellation of some international travel to and from the United States.

The coronavirus first emerged in Dec. 2019 in the city of Wuhan, China. To date, more than 100,000 cases have been confirmed worldwide and the virus has been identified in more than 120 countries, including the United States.
