The Patriots need to add more weapons if they want to convince Tom Brady to stay. Here are five guys who would do the trick for New England.

Tom Brady is set to become a free agent and that’s got everyone associated with the Patriots on high alert. If New England does want to make Brady a Patriot for life, they need to utilize free agency to give him some offensive support.

The question really isn’t whether or not the Patriots need to make some moves to placate Brady. Instead, it’s who Bill Belichick and the team’s front office might target to keep TB12 in town. Much of the franchise’s emphasis in free agency should focus on improving their options at the offensive skill positions.

That doesn’t mean the franchise can completely ignore protecting their franchise quarterback. Brady isn’t anywhere close to the most mobile player in the NFL. Protecting him should also be something that New England is mindful of in free agency. That’s why the first player on this list happens to be an offensive lineman that Brady is very familiar with.

5. Joe Thuney

Re-signing a guard isn’t the sexiest move in free agency, but it’s still something the Patriots should strongly consider. Thuney is widely considered to be the best guard available via free agency. That means he’s going to experience a robust market when free agency does finally begin.

Unfortunately for fans in Foxborough, the chances of the Patriots bringing Thuney back into the fold are relatively slim. They lack the cap space to match the perspective offers he’s likely to receive from other teams in need of interior line help.

That could leave the Patriots in the unenviable position of choosing between retaining Thuney or inking a relatively big-name target for Brady to utilize in the passing game. Expect Belichick to try to find a low-cost player to plug Thuney’s spot on his offensive line. That decision may not sit well with Brady.
