2nd round

With Joey Bosa, Keenan Allen and Mike Williams all set to hit free agency following the 2020 season, the Chargers will have some important decisions to make in regards to allocating long-term resources to its foundational players. The depth of this receiver class allows the Chargers to take another “best player available” approach at the top of the second round in another form Clemson star wideout, Tee Higgins.

If Higgins’ strengths and athletic profile remind you of Williams, you aren’t imagining it. His frame and ball skills make him one of the highest-ceiling players in the entire position group, which is really saying something considering Mel Kiper Jr. said earlier this year as many as 30 (!) receivers could be taken in the first three rounds.

Higgins has had a bit of an uneven draft process, opting not to test at the Combine to recover from the Tigers’ long season and then curiously putting up just a 31-inch vertical at Clemson’s Pro Day. Whether that affects his draft stock remains to be seen, but adding Higgins will rapidly accelerate the growth of the Chargers’ offense and give them a bit of security depending on how future negotiations go with Allen and Williams.
