If you’re still laughing at the Miami Dolphins, the joke is about to be on you if their plans all come together.

With all that is being made about the quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft class, a  popular name that continues to get overlooked is J.K. Dobbins.

The Miami Dolphins are looking to capitalize on that.

It appears that the Dolphins are bringing the Ohio State star in for a visit. Whether that actually happens or not doesn’t change the fact that Miami is showing a clear interest in Dobbins — and that’s significant.

Saying Dobbins is a forgotten man in the Draft is inaccurate. But casual NFL fans likely haven’t been thinking much about him in all the hullabaloo about Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, and the rest of the quarterbacks who rise and fall each week.

Miami has been very present in that conversation, which makes their interest in Dobbins even more intriguing. The Dolphins seem to be getting closer and closer to being a lock to draft Tua Tagovailoa to be their franchise quarterback. Pairing him with Dobbins, as this visit suggests is at least an idea the Dolphins have, shatters whatever preconceived notion we had about Miami’s rebuild.

The Dolphins have already made us eat our words before. They were the butt of every ‘Tank For Tua’ joke before the season even started and things didn’t get any better as their transparent tanking persisted. But despite this, Brian Flores forged a culture in Miami that was less about tanking and more about not caring if people think you’re doing things “the right way”.

What resulted was a five-win season no one saw coming and the establishment of a culture that might be closer to turning things around than the long-term projection we first applied to Miami.

Obviously, drafting Tua and Dobbins isn’t going to instantly fix the Dolphins. It is, however, in keeping with the blueprint forward momentum the Dolphins drew up last season.

Maybe they don’t have a miraculous turnaround next year, but the Dolphins clearly have a plan and it’s one that should deeply intrigue fans hoping for things to get better.
