Predators Nick Bonino calls upon fans to stay home in passionate Twitter post
By Mary Clarke
The Nashville Predators forward posted a Twitter note on Sunday urging fans to stay in their homes to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The NHL is currently on a temporary pause due to the coronavirus pandemic, with no current restart date in sight after the abrupt shuttering of doors on Thursday. Hockey players across the NHL have since been allowed to rejoin their families, should they wish, and begin a period of social distancing to help mitigate the spread of the virus.
After pictures and videos spread on social media over the weekend of long lines at bars and restaurants across the country despite the threat of the virus, Nashville Predators forward Nick Bonino took to Twitter to plead with hockey fans to stay home during this time.
Part of the message from Bonino reads:
"I doubt what I’m saying will make everyone happy. I understand people have the freedom to do what they want, but please, if you are able to stay home right now, do so.When this is all over, I’ll see you all at Bridgestone and on Broadway, that’s a promise, but for now stay healthy and safe. Thanks."
In the Twitter post, Bonino urges people to help flatten the curve and keep the most vulnerable members of the population — the elderly and the immunocompromised — as safe as possible in this time.
Though the world of sports has fallen silent due to the coronavirus outbreak, there are still ways to be entertained at home in the weeks to come, from streaming a newly released Disney movie to dipping your toe into your video game backlog.
