NFL Free Agency 2020: 3 Targets for each team
Minnesota Vikings
1. Jimmy Smith
2. David Onyemata
3. Shaq Lawson
Minnesota has a pittance of cap space. The Vikings’ wiggle room amounts to $746,556 and their attention is more likely to be focused on finding savings and identifying ways to keep their own free agents around.
Unearthing gems at bargain prices will likely be the name of the game for Minnesota, who appear destined to lose former first-round pick Trae Waynes on the open market.
Despite being the wrong side of 30, Smith would arguably be an upgrade on Waynes having played at a consistently high level for a Ravens defense that has regularly been near the top of the league.
With Linval Joseph a confirmed cap casualty, the Vikings would be wise to try to sign Onyemata, an underrated contributor to the New Orleans Saints’ defensive front in the past few years.
There is doubt over the prospect of bringing Everson Griffen back. Signing a replacement at an affordable price won’t be easy, but the price for Lawson is unlikely to be exorbitant.
Lawson hasn’t lived up to his first-round draft slot, and the Vikings would have to hope they could maximize his talents in a way the Bills coaching staff was never able to.
