3. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are moving on without Philip Rivers, and in some ways Tyrod Taylor is the perfect bridge to a quarterback they’d draft in April (Tua Tagovailoa? Justin Herbert? Jordan Love?). But they’ve also been a rumored suitor for Tom Brady, if only in the interest of getting some serious off the field buzz.

As they start to share the Rams’ new stadium, the Chargers need to finally get a real piece of the Los Angeles fan base and having a star quarterback is one of the best ways to do that. And that leaves aside the impact said quarterback would have on the most important part of the equation–winning games.

Los Angeles is likely to be a spot that appeals to Newton, and Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn stands to favor having a mobile quarterback now that Rivers is gone. There are plenty of weapons in place too, with a legit No. 1 wide receiver (Keenan Allen), a dual threat running back (Austin Ekeler), a top tight end (Hunter Henry) and a No. 2 wide receiver with upside (Mike Williams). A trade for guard Trai Turner should only be the start of moves to bolster the offensive line this offseason.

The Chargers need a quarterback, and Newton needs a landing spot that lines him to succeed at a high level. This marriage could be a very happy one for both sides.
