Baltimore Ravens

After Lamar Jackson carried the Baltimore Ravens on his back last season and made them the regular season’s best team before their roster deficiencies caught up to them in the postseason, it’s time for the Ravens front office to pay it forward.

They quietly had a poor offseason in 2019, gutting most of their offense and getting demonstrably worse defensively due to pass rushing departures. However, the Ravens are already back to their best when it comes to swindling other teams.

Firstly, they robbed the Atlanta Falcons by getting a second-round pick in exchange for backup tight end Hayden Hurst. While Hurst is a quality player, the Ravens got an eerily similar haul to what Houston received for an actual superstar in DeAndre Hopkins.

They also added one of the NFL’s legends in Calais Campbell, sending a mid-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a player who is still among the league’s most disruptive defensive linemen. He is a difference-maker.

The Ravens made some other unsung moves which will serve to benefit them in the upcoming season. They kept quality backup running back Gus Edwards, franchised Matt Judon, and re-signed above-average defensive tackle Justin Ellis.

Baltimore prioritized beefing up their defensive line beyond acquiring Calais Campbell and keeping Ellis. They signed long-time standout defensive tackle Michael Brockers and added one of the league’s more underrated linemen in Jihad Ward.

This acclaimed front office is clearly playing chess, and their defensive line additions will be especially exciting to watch next year.
