4. New York Jets

The Jets entered the offseason with a boatload of salary cap room and a ton of clear needs to spend it on. The biggest issue for the Jets was their offensive line, which needs at least four new starters after being a disaster in 2019.

The Jets were thrown a curveball when guard Joe Thuney, who was going to be their top target in free agency, got tagged by the New England Patriots. Jack Conklin and Graham Glasgow, two other potential upgrades for the Jets, went elsewhere on deals New York could have matched.

The only offensive line moves the Jets have made to date are retaining Alex Lewis at left guard and signing George Fant to a three-year deal. Fant, who has a ton of potential but little experience, would man the left tackle spot for the Jets if they had to play a game tomorrow.

The Jets also haven’t addressed some of their other needs, including playmakers for Sam Darnold, edge rusher, cornerback, and general depth at this point. General manager Joe Douglas used to work for the Baltimore Ravens, who never like to spend big bucks early in free agency, but this is still a very light haul.

If the Jets are more active in secondary free agency they could end up out of this list, but if we were handing out grades right now they would receive an F for their offseason work. With Buffalo and Miami loading up in anticipation of a run at the AFC East crown now that Tom Brady is gone, the Jets are getting left in the dust again.
