Derrick Brown

Derrick Brown is a talent that might be unmatched in this draft. He is a giant at 6-foot-5 and 325 pounds. He was named the MaxPreps National Player of the Year coming out of high school in Georgia. That’s when he signed on with Auburn, where he became a four-year contributor and a three-year starter.

He was blowing up offensive lines all season and was named a finalist for the Outland, Nagurski and Bednarik Awards. He won the Lott IMPACT Trophy. This, after a season where he had 33 solo tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and four deflected passes.

Brown had four sacks this season, coming against No. 17 Texas A&M, No. 10 Florida and then-No. 2 LSU. He stepped up against the best competition.

Brown didn’t have the best combine, but that’s only going to help the Jaguars. We don’t need to see Brown on the bench press to know he can lift offensive linemen off their feet and take down running backs and quarterbacks. He’s going to demand double teams off the bat, and he might beat some of them even on the NFL level.

With Josh Allen on the outside, adding Brown on the inside could give the Jaguars something other teams fear. A dominant defensive line can change games and gameplans.
