Isaiah Simmons

If Simmons is on the board when Jacksonville is on the clock, this is a slam dunk. We don’t see that as a reality, but we’ll talk it out. Simmons is unbelievably versatile and has most saying he’sa lock to go in the top five selections.

Should the Jaguars be looking to go with the high upside play with that pick? In this case, yes.

If the Jaguars are willing to take Simmons with their ninth-overall pick, they are showing they are willing to build a defense around his unique talents. He’s a safety who transitioned to linebacker and absolutely dominated. He won the Butkus award as the best at this position, despite playing five different positions over the course of the year.

He’s 6-foot-4 and 238 pounds. This is a big player who can fit in a lot of places in different schemes. The Jaguars would eventually love having this kind of player, but it takes work to make him excel in a scheme. He’s not like the offensive or defensive lineman where he will either work or not based on his own skill and work ethic.

Simmons needs to be in the right situation to become the Pro Bowler we know he can be. Whether that’s Jacksonville is unknown, but his talent and versatility make him incredibly desirable.
