Round 1

EDGE. Penn State. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Yetur Gross-Matos. 23. player. 806

Regardless of who starts at quarterback, the team will continue to take a defense-first approach to roster building. On the defensive side, the team will key in on finding a pass rusher early in the draft.

Gross-Matos is a great fit in this role for the Patriots. He has incredible natural athleticism and above-average arm length that, when coupled with NFL skills coaching, will translate into being a highly effective pass rusher for New England.

There are some question marks surrounding his ability to hold up strength-wise against NFL caliber offensive lineman; but fortunately, that is the easiest problem to solve in development and the rest of his game is outstanding. At 6-foot-5 and weighing 266 pounds, he has more than enough frame to bulk up and take on tackles at the point of attack.

The offense will not be the focal point of any successful 2020 manifestation of the New England dynasty, and their first round pick will go a long way in keeping the defense at the top of the league.
