4. Sign WR A.J. Green to a multi-year contract

Regardless of who’s throwing the football for the Cincinnati Bengals this upcoming season, it would be important to have a seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver at his disposal. Yes, A.J. Green missed the entire 2019 season after being injured during the summer. When he’s on the field, the sure-handed, big-play performer is one of the best in the business.

There was speculation he could be on the move last year while he was sidelined. But apparently that was nothing but some people trying to connect the dots. And to make sure he wasn’t going anywhere, the Bengals put the franchise tag on the potential free agent.

Of course, the organization could still opt to deal the productive performer should they get the right deal and Green signs his tender. A total of 111 regular-season contests have added up to 602 receptions, 8,907 yards (14.8 average) and 63 scores. And there’s obviously a lot of football left in the 31-year-old who was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2011 draft. It’s also worth noting that Green missed seven games in 2018 and has actually played and started all 16 contests just once in the past four seasons.

Wide receiver Tyler Boyd has led the Bengals in receptions in the past two campaigns. He comes off a year in which he totaled 90 catches for 1,046 yards and five scores. It would be interesting to see Green, Boyd and speedster John Ross on the field together for a sustained amount of time. But retaining the seven-time Pro Bowler would be in the franchise’s best interest.
