3. Secure the offensive line

He was the 11th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. But a torn labrum suffered last spring at minicamp and the subsequent surgery sidelined former Alabama tackle, Jonah Williams, for the entire season. Now the usually durable performer is looking forward to getting back on the field.

“A lot of pent up energy,” Williams said back in late December to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I’m pretty fired up for next year.”

“It’s a test mentally,” added Williams. “I want to be out there. I want to be contributing. It really sucks being on the sideline. But I still have pride for this team, love all my teammates. I’m excited to be hopefully in a position to contribute.”

Ben Linsey of Pro Football Focus (subscription required) ranked the league’s offensive fronts after the 2019 season and only the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams graded out lower than the Cincinnati Bengals. The team traded for tackle Cordy Glenn back in 2018 and signed guard John Miller last offseason during free agency. But both former members of the Buffalo Bills were released by the club this offseason.

Talented Joe Mixon did run for 1,137 yards and five scores in ‘19. But Zac Taylor’s team ranked 27th in the NFL in rushing yards per game and the team surrendered 48 sacks. It’s yet another area is need of help.
