Baylor basketball: 2019-20 season review and 2020-2021 early preview
Memorable Moments
Baylor tops Villanova to win the Myrtle Beach Invitational
An early loss to Washington hurt the Bears in the polls, leaving them ranked 24th entering the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Wins over Ohio and Coastal Carolina didn’t really move the needle, but the Bears made their mark by topping Villanova in the final. Butler scored 22 points, including 10 in the final six minutes, to help the Bears claim some hardware.
Baylor knocks off red-hot Butler
One of the underrated non-conference matchups of the season came in December when Baylor hosted undefeated Butler in Waco. The game was a tight one throughout as Butler came storming back after trailing by 10 at the break. Mark Vital proved to be the hero for the Bears, blocking Kamar Baldwin‘s final shot with 1.5 seconds left to secure the win for Baylor.
Baylor finally wins at Allen Fieldhouse
Allen Fieldhouse has traditionally been a house of horrors for Big 12 foes, but especially for Baylor, who had never won at the Phog. That all changed on Jan. 11 when Baylor went to Lawrence and knocked off the Jayhawks by 12 in an effort that absolutely shocked Kansas fans. Butler went off for 22 points as the Bears seized control of the Big 12 standings early in the conference season.
Baylor gets shocked by TCU
A loss to Kansas at home was disappointing but not unexpected for Baylor since the Jayhawks are a very good team. Losing at TCU, which entered the contest at 15-13 and off the bubble, was downright shocking. The Horned Frogs scored a whopping 54 points in the second half to beat Baylor by three, with that defeat effectively costing the Bears a shot at the Big 12 title.
