Fourth Round

WR. player. 811. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 130. Michigan Wolverines. Donovan Peoples-Jones

Even though the Saints were able to address a massive need at the wide receiver position by singing Emmanuel Sanders away from the San Francisco 49ers in free agency, they could certainly use another wideout in the draft. One guy they could take with the No. 130 overall pick in the fourth round is Donovan Peoples-Jones out of the University of Michigan.

Peoples-Jones is 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds. He spent all three of his years in Ann Arbor playing for former NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh, where he had 103 career catches for 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns. Though he never had 50 catches or anywhere close to 1,000 yards as a receiver in college, you have to like his ability to score touchdowns, all of which coming in his last two years.

By coming to a team like the Saints with Michael Thomas as the No. 1 option and Sanders as the new No. 1A option, Peoples-Jones won’t be expected to contribute at a high level in right away and make a massive difference. He can gradually work his way into Sean Payton’s offense, as he develops trust with his starting quarterback for now in Drew Brees and with Love down the line.

While Harbaugh has had success as a player and as a coach both at the collegiate and professional levels, his Michigan offense has been archaic these last few years. Perhaps Peoples-Jones was underutilized as a pass-catcher during his three years in the Big Ten? We’ll find out if he’s ready for bigger and better things soon enough once he’s drafted to a team like the Saints.
