Buffalo Bills

Whereas the New England Patriots had a free agency filled with departures due to an unwillingness to overpay an aging quarterback or role players on defense, the Buffalo Bills offseason has been all about beefing up their team for a run at the AFC East crown.

A lot will hinge on whether or not the inaccurate Josh Allen can take another step in his development as a decision-maker, but the Bills are assembling an even more formidable defense in case he doesn’t make the leap.

The Bills have been jokingly referred to as the Carolina Panthers of the north, but the former Carolina players Sean McDermott is adding are quite good. Vernon Butler is coming off the best season of his career, and Mario Addison has long been one of the NFL’s most under-appreciated edge rushers. Along with Jordan Phillips and Quinton Jefferson, they will help give the Bills a fearsome and deep defensive line, which has traditionally been a strength of their team.

Undoubtedly, the Bills biggest addition to the roster this free agency is superstar wide receiver Stefon Diggs, whom they acquired from the Minnesota Vikings after the wideout made it clear he wanted not part of a long-term future with Kirk Cousins.

Perhaps Diggs will grow frustrated with Allen’s own accuracy issues, but it’s more likely he’ll enjoy playing with a hyper-athletic gunslinger who loves to throw the deep ball. The Bills offense will be fun to watch and play to their quarterback’s strengths with Diggs, John Brown, and Robert Foster as capable home-run hitters.
