Team: New York Rangers
Position: G
Age: 38

Nobody said that this would be easy.

Arguably the greatest goaltender of the past generation, Henrik Lundqvist’s future with the New York Rangers promises to be one of the most talked about storylines during the course of the summer ahead.

The 38-year-old is currently caught in the midst of a twofold predicament. The 2019-20 season saw Lundqvist grapple with dwindling numbers (tallying just 10 wins in 30 games for a 3.16 GAA and a .905 save percentage) amidst the birth of a new regime in the Rangers’ crease. The noteworthy play of Alexandar Georgiev and Igor Shesterkin all but ensures that the winds of change have been ushered forth for New York.

Few would trouble the notion that Lundqvist’s relationship with the Rangers is up in the air. “Obviously,” the goaltender remarked, “my situation, after the season you will obviously have things to talk about, your role and if you fit in this role or something else.”

Whether Lundqvist will ask to be traded to a Stanley Cup contender, settle with embracing a lesser role in New York or hang up the skates for good remains unclear. Nonetheless, you can bet that the hockey world will speculate until a degree of resolution is introduced.
