Fifth Round

161. player. 846. . QB. Cougars . Anthony Gordon

Quarterback is obviously not a huge need in the short-term for Tampa Bay, but adding some future upside behind Tom Brady should be on the radar.

Gordon had to wait his turn after losing a quarterback battle to Gardner Minshew in 2018, but he had a nice season running Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense last year. Not surprisingly he led the country in pass attempts (689), while finishing second to Joe Burrow in passing yards (5,579), second to Burrow in touchdowns through the air (48) and fourth in the FBS in completion percentage (71.6 percent).

Gordon has less than ideal size (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) and arm strength, and he’s the next guy to carry questions about inflated numbers running an offense like Leach’s. But sitting behind Brady and being coached by Bruce Arians is a nice situation to fall into, and at this point in the draft Gordon is a worthy flier for the Buccaneers.

Sixth Round

194. player. 824. . S. Terrapins . Antoine Brooks Jr.

A safety with a linebacker skill set and mentality, Brooks led the Big Ten in solo tackles as a senior in 2019 (69), and tallied 27.5 tackles for loss over his three seasons as a starter for the Terrapins.

Brooks should immediately be an effective player on special teams coverage, where his straight line movement ability can be maximized while he hones his craft as a pro safety. Good coaches know how to maximize what a player does best and minimize the exposure of their weaknesses, and with that in mind Brooks could eventually become a difference maker in Todd Bowles’ defense.

Seventh Round

Tampa Bay does not have a seventh-round pick this year. The Bucs relinquished it in the trade that sent wide receiver DeSean Jackson back to the Philadelphia Eagles. The pick now belongs to the Atlanta Falcons though, as the Eagles sent it to them for linebacker Duke Riley in the Johnathan Cyprien trade last season.
