5 reasons the Chiefs will repeat as Super Bowl Champions
2. Patrick Mahomes
Sticking with our theme, all of the teams that have won back-to-back Super Bowls were led by quarterbacks that either are or will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Mahomes isn’t a lock for the Hall of Fame yet but he’s damn sure on track. The Texas Tech product has enjoyed the best two-year start to a career as any quarterback in NFL history after sitting on the bench for all but one game of his rookie season.
In the two years since becoming the full-time starter in Kansas City, Mahomes has thrown for 50 touchdowns, won the NFL MVP award, played in two AFC Championship games and has a Super Bowl championship and MVP. The kid is special.
Sure, having a generational talent at quarterback is no guarantee of winning consecutive Super Bowls. Drew Brees couldn’t get it done. Neither could Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson. Hell, Dan Marino never even won a Super Bowl and only played in the big game once.
It takes an entire team to win, but having the best quarterback in the league is a good start.
