2. New England Patriots

No one should really believe that the Patriots are willing to go into the 2020 regular season with either Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer as their starting quarterback. The vacancy at that high-profile position means New England is a prime candidate to make a Round 1 trade.

Bill Belichick isn’t the kind of guy to move up in the draft to select a big name quarterback though. Patriots fans hoping their favorite team will fly up the board to draft someone like Justin Herbert need to take a deep breath. The odds are piled against that kind of splashy transaction.

It’s much more likely that New England will move down in Round 1 as a part of a larger transaction that might net them a veteran quarterback. A deal with the Colts for Jacoby Brissett still feels very much like a Belichick move.

It’s also possible that the Patriots will take a lesser quarterback prospect in this class to develop. Jordan Love could be a target if they want to move up slightly.

Flipping their first-rounder for more second round ammunition to draft a guy like Jacob Eason could also be an intriguing idea for the franchise. No matter what, expect Belichick to move up and down the draft this year. That process will begin in Round 1.
