1 Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are the most likely team to consummate a deal with the Lions to move up to No. 3. The clear objective of that trade would be to land Tagovailoa.

In a perfect world, Miami officials would love to sit back and watch the former Alabama star fall to them at No. 5. That’s not going to happen. Someone is going to make a deal to move up and take Tagovailoa earlier in Round 1.

If the Dolphins aren’t the team that moves up to grab Tua, they’ll suddenly become a prime candidate to move down from the No. 5 spot. The team still has a ton of roster holes to fill. Sliding down in the first round and picking up additional draft capital would become the team’s most prudent Plan B.

Next. Dolphins need to trade up if they want Tua. dark

That scenario might even cause the Dolphins to focus their energy on a developmental quarterback later in the draft. They could slide down and still end up with a highly rated prospect like Love. That would be a bitter disappointment after setting their sights on Tagovailoa, but the Dolphins can’t afford to wallow in any sort of misery. They have to be prepared to make a first round trade no matter how things fall.
