Fantasy football 2020 NFC South division breakdown
By Bill Pivetz
QB: Tom Brady
RBs: Ronald Jones, Dare Ogunbowale
WRs: Mike Evans, Chris Godwin
TEs: OJ Howard, Cameron Brate
What an offseason for the Buccaneers. They cut ties with Peyton Barber, clearing the way for Jones to be the lead back. Oh yeah, they also added the best quarterback over the last 15 years. While Brady isn’t throwing 35 touchdowns a season, he’s protecting the ball more.
Brady will also have the best receiving corps he’s had in a while. Evans and Godwin each posted 1,100-yard seasons last year. Godwin had nine touchdowns while Evans had eight. There isn’t a third receiver that will be worth drafting.
Going back to Jones, he had 172 carries while Barber had 154. While all 154 won’t go to Jones, a majority will. So Jones could get to 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. Ogunbowale could spell Jones on a series or two but it won’t be an even split like it was last season.
Every year, fantasy experts try to hype up Howard and every year it fails. He hasn’t eclipsed 600 yards or six touchdowns in a season. Plus, Brate is still in the picture. Brady is familiar with teams running 2TE sets. I expect both to get another 30-40 receptions.
My sleeper is going to be Brady. People don’t have high expectations for him. Tampa Bay has been bad for years but with the weapons they have in place, Brady will have a successful season for any fantasy owner who drafts him. With Jones, Evans, Godwin, Howard and Brate, that is a solid group of targets for him. He can finish as a top-10 quarterback this season.
One division down, seven more to go. Next up will be the NFC North. It’s been a one-team division for years but did this offseason change the tide? Continue checking out FanSided Fantasy for all your fantasy sports information.
