1. Kansas City Chiefs

Consider what the now-defending Super Bowl champions were doing last offseason and this year’s quiet showing in terms of veteran acquisitions is quite the turnaround. Last spring and summer, Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs were bring on defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and making the switch to the 4-3. They signed the likes of safety Tyrann Mathieu and cornerbacks Bashuard Breeland and Morris Claiborne and made trades for defensive ends Frank Clark and Emmanuel Ogbah and linebacker Darron Lee. And after a slow start, this side of the football came together when it counted most and the franchise captured its first championship since 1969.

This month, the Chiefs have signed a pair of former New York Giants in cornerback Antonio Hamilton and tackle Mike Remmers. And courtesy of the XFL, they also inked St. Louis BattleHawks’ quarterback Jordan Ta’Amu.

As of now, the Chiefs have a lot of work to do if they are to get defensive tackle Chris Jones signed to a long-term deal. The club bought some time by giving him the franchise tag but don’t look for Reid and company to be making any significant moves anytime soon in terms of adding veterans. Of course, the Chiefs do have a pretty talented roster. But with only five picks in next month’s upcoming draft, adding depth will have to come from somewhere.
