Second Round

Scouting Report. OL. Robert Hunt. player. 124. Pick Analysis. Louisiana. 63

It wouldn’t be a Chiefs mock draft without them taking an offensive lineman at some point, would it? There’s always room for improvement on that front and with players like Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Andrew Wylie on thinner ice than usual in regards to their spots moving forward, Kansas City would be wise to look for some depth. Louisiana’s Robert Hunt fits the bill.

Hunt was a starter for his entire career at Louisiana, playing both guard and tackle. He’s an absolute unit at 6-foot-5 and 323-pounds, and with impressive athleticism for someone of his stature. This is great news for the Chiefs, as they lost swingman Cam Erving in the offseason.

While Hunt’s footwork and overall polish as a lineman could use some work, in addition to there not being an exact fit for him along the front five, that potential alone is why he should be drafted this high. You can teach technique, but you can’t really teach athletic ability. Sitting for a year would likely do him wonders as he bridges the gap between the two.

Swinging inside to guard is probably the best move for Hunt as he learns to build strength and use it to his advantage against opposing defenders. He’s an intriguing talent at a position that teams can’t have enough depth at. With only five picks to work with, the Chiefs using one of them on Hunt and his high ceiling would be worthwhile.
