1. Jacoby Brissett will lead the Patriots to the postseason

Belichick would love everyone to buy into the theory that he’s perfectly willing to go into the regular season with Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer as his starting quarterback. Don’t buy into that silly notion. The Patriots are just biding their time to bring in a legitimate starter at the most important position in football.

Andy Dalton remains a logical possibility to head to New England, but team officials have tried to extinguish those rumors at every opportunity. That could line things up for Brissett to make a triumphant return to Foxborough.

The Colts like him as a backup, but they’re committed to Philip Rivers in a big way this season. Brissett should bristle at that choice by the franchise. He and his representatives should be pushing for a trade.

A return to the Patriots just makes too much sense. He’s just the sort of smart quarterback they need to execute their run heavy offense. His ability to make plays on the run also dovetail nicely into what New England should look to do in 2020. Acquiring him from the Colts after his demotion would be a classic example of Belichick buying low on a player.

If he does return to New England, Brissett makes this offense respectable. That should be enough to squeeze a Wild Card berth out of the current roster. It also might be enough to represent the best coaching job of Belichick’s career.
