9. Alexandre Burrows – 2011 Western Conference Quarterfinals, Game 7

Alexandre Burrows’ double-overtime slap shot vs the Chicago Blackhawks kicked off one of the more bizarre runs to the Cup. Heading into the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the President’s Trophy winning Vancouver Canucks were odds on favorites to win it all.

They got off to a quick start in the Western Conference quarterfinals, taking a 3-0 series lead against the defending champs. However, Johnathan Toews and company staged a furious comeback to draw the series even at three games apiece, with the deciding game seven needing not one, but two overtimes to settle it all.

Luckily for the Canucks, noted heel Burrows intercepted a clearing attempt from Blackhawks defenseman Chris Campoli and ripped an absolute laser past Corey Crawford. While the Canucks looked primed for an embarrassing collapse, Burrows bit down on the competition and came up clutch.

Canucks play-by-play announcer John Shorthouse’s declaration of this goal that the Cancucks had “slayed the dragon” rings absolutely true. The season prior, the Canucks were throttled by the Blackhawks — hearing a bit too much “Chelsea Dagger” for Roberto Luongo‘s liking.

However, all of that was erased with one goal. The Canucks would score a few more notable goals during their run to the Cup, but this one gets the spot for setting it all in motion.
