Eric Ebron jokes Patrick Mahomes should go back to playing baseball
Patrick Mahomes is so good, Eric Ebron wishes he’d go back to playing baseball. It might be the only chance any other AFC team makes the Super Bowl.
Yesterday, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to Twitter yesterday, pining for his old days playing baseball.
Mahomes has deep roots in baseball. His father, Patrick Lavon Mahomes, Sr. was a player in the MLB from 1992 to 2003. He logged service for the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates. His son, Patrick Mahomes II, literally grew up in MLB clubhouses.
Mahomes II also played baseball growing up and in college at Texas Tech and he was actually drafted by the Detroit Tigers, albeit in the 37th round. At that point, Mahomes had already been upfront about his desire to play football but the Tigers liked his talent so much they were willing to take a low-risk chance on securing his rights.
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Eric Ebron saw Mahomes’ tweet about missing playing baseball and couldn’t help but chime in with a solid one-liner.

You can’t blame Ebron and the rest of the AFC for wishing Mahomes would leave the NFL and go back to playing baseball. Mahomes has been absolutely dominant since taking over as the quarterback in Kansas City.
In his first season as a starter, Mahomes threw for 50 touchdowns and was a Dee Ford false start penalty away from taking the Chiefs to the Super Bowl. In his second season, Mahomes recovered so quickly from a dislocated knee cap, an injury that could have ended his season, we all had to wonder if the kid was even human. He lost his first game back from the injury and then went on to lead the Chiefs to nine straight victories and a Super Bowl Championship.
The AFC also-rans have long been waiting for Tom Brady to retire or leave the conference and now that it has finally happened, they’re stuck with Mahomes taking over Brady’s dominant grip on the NFL. With Mahomes already getting his finger measured for his first Super Bowl ring and Lamar Jackson looking like an absolute beast in Baltimore, Ebron better hope his quarterback Ben Roethlisberger returns from injury in top form. Otherwise, Ebron may want to consider leaving the AFC himself.
In all seriousness, it is great to see NFL players joking around and keeping things light during this difficult time. These players go to battle and play incredibly hard every week but it is cool to see the amount of respect they have for each other off the field.
