2020 NBA Mock Draft 3.0: Knicks and Bulls walk away happy
By Zach Hood
New York desperately needs a difference-maker. RJ Barrett was okay as a rookie, despite the shooting red flags, but he needs a lot more help. Edwards’ shooting talent is something that does not exist in the current Knicks core and would probably become one of their best offensive weapons after Julius Randle (if he’s back). Long-term, which is what is important here obviously, Edwards and Barrett should fit as long as Edwards shoots well. Edwards’ shooting percentages weren’t great at Georgia, but when considering a lot of his 3s were pull-ups and/or contested, it’s conceivable he could be a good shooting in an off-ball role at the next level.
Edwards is raw, but the skill-set is undeniable. At 6-foot-4, he profiles as a good shooter in the long-term and is a freakish athlete. He might not be a stopper on the other end, but should be competitive due to his physical ability. He just needs to bring consistent intensity.
Edwards might not contribute right away, but wings with shooting potential that are this level of athlete are rare. In what many are projecting as a weak class, the University of Georgia product has one of the highest ceilings, if not the highest. The Knicks should be happy to grab him at No. 2, but may consider Hayes, Avdija, Anthony and a few others if they select at this spot.
