Despite Goldberg getting the hot start, Braun Strowman managed to come back and defeat the Hall of Famer to win the WWE universal championship at night one of WWE’s WrestleMania 36.

At night one of WWE‘s WrestleMania 36, Braun Strowman defeated Goldberg in an expected relatively quick match to become the new WWE Universal champion.

The match began with the two circling one another and staring each other down. After some trash talk between the two, Goldberg delivered a front kick to the stomach and got on the offensive start.

Strowman was nearly rammed into the corner, but Goldberg hit his head on the turnbuckle after Strowman moved out of the way.

Goldberg quickly delivered a series of three consecutive spears before attempting a pin. Strowman, however, kicked out at two.

Goldberg delivered one more spear and went for a jackhammer, but Strowman countered and delivered four running powerslams onto Goldberg before securing the pin, win and championship.

The WWE Universal championship match was originally scheduled to be Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns, but Reigns pulled out of the match when he felt it was unsafe to compete under the current conditions thanks to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.

Goldberg, the WWE Hall of Famer, won the WWE universal championship at Super ShowDown in February, defeating “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt in an even quicker fashion — causing much fan backlash. It was his second reign as the WWE universal champion.

This win marks Strowman’s first reign as WWE universal champion after several unsuccessful attempts to get the title over the last couple of years — and despite this win, some fans feel the WWE has pulled the trigger on Strowman late.
