El Paso

Nickname: Grande

Closest team, Arizona Diamondbacks (430 miles)

How about a third Texas idea?

Knowing how big of a presence baseball owns in Mexico, and the proximity of El Paso to the Southern border, I think baseball could benefit from having Mexican fans watch the best baseball talent in the world consistently.

For the record, I have no idea what kind of baseball people in El Paso and nearby Mexican cities are watching. Obviously, smarter people than myself are in Major League Baseball’s offices. I have never crossed a border in a car, so I have no idea how long the process is, or what it could possibly be like when going to a ball game. But MLB has played games all across the globe. They obviously want to expand the game, so why wouldn’t this be at least a thought?

Also, in terms of the name — more geography! The Rio Grande River runs through west El Paso. I’m sure in the opening weeks, a stadium will fill up the…grande stands.
