1. Philip Rivers will lose his job

The Colts are paying Rivers a lot of money and they clearly want him to be their starter in 2020. The unfortunate truth is that the former NC State star is really starting to show is age out on the field.

That’s a big reason why he finished last year with 20 interceptions for the Chargers last season. He might have been a bit unlucky in that regard, but that’s still a huge red flag in terms of what he’s still able to offer a good team.

The Colts will prop him up for a while with their terrific ground game. That will minimize Rivers’ need to really carry the offense. Eventually though, he’s going to come to a stretch of games where he needs to perform like a Pro Bowler.

When that happens, he’s going to be exposed. Things might be different if he were surrounded by a great supporting cast at receiver, but that group needs to be elevated by their quarterback. Rivers just isn’t that guy anymore.

If Jacoby Brissett is still on the roster when the season begins, then look for him to reclaim his starting job at the season’s midpoint. If he gets traded, the Colts may be forced to stick with Rivers no matter what. That could cost them their chances at a lengthy playoff run. One way or another, Rivers is going to be placed on the bench before the season ends.
