Former LSU Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow appeared on The Big Podcast with Shaq to talk about his plans for the NFL Draft and being compared to Tua Tagovailoa.
A couple of LSU Tigers got together to record a podcast. Next, they could share the common bond of being No. 1 picks in their sportās draft.
Joe Burrow appeared on The Big Podcast with Shaq as the Tigers quarterback dished with Shaquille OāNeal, the former LSU hoops standout and former No. 1 pick of the Orlando Magic. As if you need any introduction to Shaq.
Nevertheless, Burrow and Shaq talking make for a great conversation.
One of the main points of conversation was what Burrowās plans are for the NFL Draft. Burrow is the projected No. 1 pick of the Cincinnati Bengals, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the draft will be a virtual experience. There wonāt be a stage in Las Vegas for Burrow to walk out on after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell calls his name.
But it should still be a big celebration for Burrow and his family as they celebrate in his hometown of Athens, Ohio.
"āYeah, you know, there is definitely some disappointment. I was really looking forward to, you know, walking that stage, walking that red carpet, and hearing my name called, but you know, I think having it at home with my family is gonna be just as good. Getting drafted is getting drafted. I donāt really have any plans yet because I donāt know what itās gonna look like, right now, Iām planning on just sitting on the couch with my parents and watching it on tv I guess.ā"
Burrow and former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa staged an epic battle last fall when LSU and the Crimson Tide met with the Tigers prevailing. At the time, they were the top two Heisman Trophy candidates and the top two prospects at the quarterback position. Burrow won the game and appears to be winning the competition to see who is drafted first.
The comparisons between the two will likely continue for the better part of the next decade. Thatās just what happens with quarterbacks in the same class. It happened with Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf, it happened with Drew Bledsoe and Rick Mirer, it happens with Jared Goff and Carson Wentz.
"āWhenever youāre coming out of the same draft class with anybody, youāre gonna get compared to them but Iām not super worried about that. Tua is a great player just like I am and thereās a lot of really good players in the draft and weāre all looking to make a name for ourselves at the next level and I guess weāll find out 10 years down the road, and thereās gonna be discussions throughout time about it, but you know we canāt control that.ā"
