Sam Howell #7 of the North Carolina Tar Heels (Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images) /

Sam Howell. 23. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 47. QB. North Carolina

Sam Howell is the third player taken in the first 23 picks off his freshman season, joining Stingley and Thibodeaux. But what a freshman season it must have been to impress Bill Belichick to take the North Carolina signal-caller. Howell broke Lawrence’s freshman record with 38 touchdowns to only seven interceptions.

The Patriots signing Brian Hoyer in free agency after losing Brady does nothing to stop Belichick from drafting the quarterback of the future. If the Patriots aren’t sold on Jarrett Stidham, and maybe they are open to giving him a shot in 2020, but Howell could be the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft otherwise so passing on him now could cost the Patriots in the future.

Auburn. Derrick Brown. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. DT. 24. player. 15

This is just incredible value to get Derrick Brown toward in the back third of the first round. Brown might be one of the safest prospects outside of Young who went third overall. The Saints have an offense ready to compete for the Super Bowl, especially after adding Emmanuel Sanders to a unit that already has Drew Brees, Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara. The defense isn’t bad, but it isn’t elite, so adding Brown to the middle of a defensive line with Cam Jordan and Marcus Davenport on the edges gets them that much closer.
