Although Jason Strowbridge isn’t much of an edge rusher, the North Carolina product could be a good fit as a rotational defensive end for the Packers.

Strowbridge can play in either a 4-3 or 3-4 front as an end since he’s been referred to as a “tweener”. However, since Strowbridge is better at pushing pockets and helping others get sacks off the edge than finishing plays on his own, he could be more of an asset in a three-man front as a big body who disrupts the passing game.

In short, Strowbridge could be a nice value pick for the Packers defense in the fourth round, and the likes of Preston Smith, Za’Darius Smith, and second-year pro Rashan Gary could benefit greatly from his hard work up front.

The Packers don’t need to make their defensive line a priority in this year’s draft, but it would be wise for them to target a defensive end in one of the first four rounds. Preferably, a defensive end who can do the dirty work and fit the team’s M.O., helping the stars at outside linebacker.

Measured at 6’5″, 285 pounds in college, Strowbridge’s length and lack of size would be unorthodox at the 3-4 end position, but the Packers and plenty of teams have had plenty of success with so-called “small” interior defenders.
