Atlanta Falcons full 2020 NFL mock draft
By John Buhler
Second Round
No, the Falcons aren’t done addressing the front-seven of their defense in the early part of this draft. While defensive coordinator Raheem Morris will coach up the secondary and assistant head coach Jeff Ulbrich will coach up the linebacking corps, getting another great player to put along the defensive line for head coach Dan Quinn to work with will be crucial.
So with the No. 47 overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Falcons will select Marlon Davidson out of nearby Auburn University. Though defensive tackle Derrick Brown was the best player on the Auburn defensive line, Davidson was a fringe first-round pick entering the draft process. He could be a huge piece for Atlanta to work with next to Grady Jarrett in the trenches.
Davidson is 6-foot-3 and 278 pounds. He is coming off a First-Team All-SEC season with Auburn, one where he had 48 total tackles, 11.5 for a loss of yardage and 6.5 sacks. He left Auburn with 174 total tackles, 28 for a loss of yardage and 14.5 sacks. With a career nine pass breakups, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries, the guy is a total disruptor along the defensive line.
Though there is a chance he could have been coached up at Auburn under defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, the evidence is there that Davidson can play off a superstar in the front-seven and still get his own. The Falcons could use him a bunch of techniques to stuff the run and get after the quarterback, too.
