4. A rookie will lead the Chiefs in rushing

The Chiefs offense may be predicated on the pass, but that doesn’t mean a quality running game isn’t important to the team’s success. That means Kansas City is going to spend a relatively high draft pick on a new running back in the draft.

Damien Williams did a decent job as the team’s No. 1 option last season, but he’s nothing special. That causes him to pale in comparison to the other weapons available to the Chiefs on offense.

He’s also going to be a free agent after the 2020 season. The Chiefs aren’t going to rush to pay an average running back big money as he nears the age of 30. That makes it very likely that Williams will be playing his football elsewhere in 2021.

The Chiefs are one of the rare franchises that can afford to spend a high round pick on a running back. It’s not out of the question that Kansas City will use their late first round selection on the guy they judge to be the top prospect in this year’s class. Adding a dynamic weapon like D’Andre Swift or Jonathan Taylor to this offense would be unfair to the rest of the NFL.
