The Ron Rivera era is officially underway in Washington. Can a strong draft class lead the franchise back to the playoffs for the first time since 2015?

Ron Rivera is the new man in charge of the Washington Redskins and heads into the 2020 NFL Draft with the second-overall pick.

While Washington is expected to land consensus top prospect Chase Young, the team’s perceived lack of faith in Dwayne Haskins could mean they’re at least exploring the possibility of taking a quarterback.

Which direction will the team go for Rivera’s first draft? Time to find out with my totally-incorrect seven-round mock.

1st round

By all accounts, this pick seems to be as much of a lock as Burrow-to-Cincy. The Bengals’ selection of the former Tigers’ quarterback allows the draft’s best prospect to fall into the lap of new head coach Ron Rivera.

To learn a little more about Young’s game, here’s what I highlighted as weaknesses from my scouting report on the former Buckeye from back in February.

"Each negative sounds like what you say in a job interview to make your character flaws actually come across as a strength. So, I guess I’ll give it a go: Young borrowed money for a cross-country flight so his girlfriend could see him play, so…he cares too much? Young forced six fumbles last season, so…is not allowing the opposing offense to possess the ball fairly evidence of poor sportsmanship? Young led the Buckeyes with 16.5 sacks in 2019, so…is this evidence of being a selfish player in not allowing his teammates to tackle the quarterback as many times as he did?"

You get it. Young is a generational prospect who would immediately give Washington one of the best pass rush groups in the NFC. The team has done a lot of homework on the quarterbacks, which probably isn’t a great indication of their faith in 2019 first-rounder Dwayne Haskins, but in the end I don’t see them passing on Young.
