This could not be more obvious. If any team is going to trade up in the 2020 NFL Draft at any point of any round, it would have to be the Miami Dolphins. They have more picks than anyone at 14. Though they did do a great job of adding quality players to their football team in free agency, Miami still has plenty of cash and assets to burn entering Brian Flores‘ second year as head coach.

Not only are the Dolphins one of five teams with multiple first-round picks, but they are the only team with three first-round picks. Miami has their own at No. 5, the No. 18 overall pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade and the No. 26 overall pick from the Houston Texans in the Laremy Tunsil trade. They have the weapons to move up as high as they want to.

If the Dolphins decide to hold steady at No. 5, they might end up with Tua Tagovailoa, would have to settle for Justin Herbert or would end up reaching for Jordan Love. By orchestrating a trade with any of the four teams ahead of them, including the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 1, Miami can get the quarterback of their choice, ensuring Tagovailoa plays for the Dolphins and no one else.

If they really feel this strongly about Tagovailoa and want to make him the No. 1 overall pick, the Dolphins can do that. Should they want to wreck the Bengals’ dreams and take LSU’s Joe Burrow No. 1, they would have the right to if they pull off a blockbuster trade with the Bengals. Cincinnati may not be a trade partner, but the Washington Redskins or the Detroit Lions could be.
