2020 NFL mock draft: Dolphins trade up for Tua Tagovailoa
By Brad Weiss
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been making wholesale changes to their roster this offseason, and have really been making moves since trading away star cornerback Jalen Ramsey during the 2019 NFL season. This offseason, they have lost veterans like A.J. Bouye and Calais Campbell on the defensive side of the ball, and that is where they should turn their attention at pick No. 9.
Luckily for the Jaguars, they land the most versatile defensive player in this draft class here, bringing in Clemson star linebacker Isaiah Simmons. At the NFL level, Simmons could have the kind of impact that Derwin James had with the Los Angeles Chargers, and that would be the absolute best-case scenario for the Jaguars.
The AFC South is loaded with talent on the offensive side of the ball, so the Jaguars need to do everything they can to bolster the defense in the 2020 NFL Draft. Simmons is a great start, and in him, they get a guy who can play all over the field, becoming a true leader on this defensive unit early on.
The Cleveland Browns went into last season as a sleeper pick to make a run in the AFC, especially with quarterback Baker Mayfield coming off a record-setting rookie season. Unfortunately, everything went wrong for the Browns, who have already fired one-year head coach Freddie Kitchens, and replaced him with Kevin Stefanski.
The hope is that Stefanski can get this thing moving in the right direction, as they have more than enough talent on both sides of the ball to be competitive. The Browns hold the No. 10 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and with the selection, they should look to bring in a player who can help protect Mayfield for the foreseeable future.
Depending on who you ask, Georgia’s Andrew Thomas may be the best offensive tackle in this draft class, and that is really saying something. Thomas can slide right on the left side of this line on Day 1, and the hope is that he could round into a player whose reliability, and production matches future Hall of Famer Joe Thomas.
