5 breakout stars to watch for Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020
1. QB Gardner Minshew II
Last offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars looked to solve their quarterback issues by adding Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles. The 2017 postseason hero for the Philadelphia Eagles was signed to a four-year, $88 million contract (via Spotrac) and hoped to get his newest team back on track after Doug Marrone’s club fell to 5-11 following an AFC Championship Game appearance this previous year.
But Foles suffered a shoulder injury in the season opener against the Chiefs. In came rookie Gardner Minshew, a sixth-round pick from Washington State. He made a solid account of himself and would go on to start the next eight games.
He finished the season playing in a total of 14 games while making a dozen starts. Minshew connected on 60.6 percent of his throws for 3,271 yards and more than three times as many touchdown passes (21) as interceptions (six). But also keep in mind that he fumbled 13 times and lost seven of those miscues. He also finished second on the club with 344 yards rushing, although he did not reach the end zone.

Now the Jacksonville offense is under the guidance of new coordinator Jay Gruden. It will indeed be interesting to see how Minshew develops, especially if he can learn how to take better care of the football.
