When the Bengals make Joe Burrow the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, he’ll join former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton in an exclusive fraternity.

Joe Burrow has already won the Heisman Trophy and led the LSU Tigers to an undefeated national championship. He’s not done adding to his list of achievements and accomplishments. On Thursday, April 23 when the 2020 NFL Draft begins, Burrow is expected to be the No. 1 pick of the Cincinnati Bengals.

When the pick is made and Burrow goes to the Bengals, he’ll join an exclusive two-person club.

Burrow will join former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton in the group of Heisman winners who won the national championship and was the No. 1 pick that same year.

The Athletic and Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman tweeted about the dynamic duo, which led to some Florida State football fans getting defensive because Jameis Winston was left out.

Winston was left out because he didn’t win the Heisman, national championship and was selected in the same year he went No. 1. Winston won the Heisman and national championship and was selected with the No. 1 pick after his sophomore season that ended with a Rose Bowl loss to Oregon in the College Football Playoff.

As impressive as this exclusive group is for Burrow and Newton, they aren’t in the ultra-exclusive company that former USC running back Marcus Allen enjoys all to himself.

Allen is the only player to win the Heisman, win a national championship, win a Super Bowl, win a Super Bowl MVP and win NFL MVP. He wasn’t the No. 1 overall pick, but I have a feeling every No. 1 pick who didn’t win a Super Bowl would give up that distinction for a Super Bowl ring.
