2. D’Andre Swift

Running backs who will excel in the Chiefs offense need to be excellent pass catchers. Swift is arguably the best pass catching back in this year’s draft class. That’s why it’s easy to envision a scenario where Kansas City takes him at the bottom of Round 1.

Swift shows an exceptional ability to run quality routes and pluck the ball out of the air from the backfield. That makes up for his lack of explosive speed in the open field. He can churn out yards due to his skill level, but he’s not going to bust a ton of long touchdown runs at the NFL level.

Swift also isn’t well suited to take a bunch of carries in the run game. He can split the work with Damien Williams, but he shouldn’t be a guy who gets 200+ carries in a single season. That lack of durability decreases his value slightly.

Swift can help the Chiefs offense right away, but he doesn’t project to be the Pro Bowl caliber running back he needs to be to justify a spot in the first round. That’s why he’s slightly behind the next player on this list.
