3. TE Blake Jarwin

Jason Witten has been a rock at tight end for the Cowboys over the years, but he is gone for the second time. After coming out of retirement in 2019, Witten left Dallas this winter to sign a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The hole at tight end has been largely ignored by the Cowboys, who picked up Blake Bell in free agency but have stayed away from splashier moves at the position. This suggests that the Cowboys feel like they already have a starter on their roster in fourth-year man Blake Jarwin.

After Witten retired following the 2017 season Jarwin was part of a time-share at the position, posting modest numbers in the process. Witten’s return bumped Jarwin down the depth chart, but his numbers actually improved slightly year-to-year.

Jarwin won’t be mistaken for the second coming of Rob Gronkowski, but he doesn’t have to be in this offense. Dallas needs a guy like Jarwin to be an effective blocker and catch passes over the middle, which is something he is definitely capable of doing.

The Cowboys would be thrilled if Jarwin becomes a guy who catches about 50 passes for 650 yards and five touchdowns while providing competent blocking. Given the state of the tight end position in the NFL, it would be a huge win to get that kind of production out of Jarwin.
