Fantasy football 2020 AFC West depth chart breakdowns
By Bill Pivetz
QB: Drew Lock
RBs: Melvin Gordon, Phillip Lindsay
WRs: Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, DaeSean Hamilton
TEs: Noah Fant, Jeff Heuerman
The Broncos have made two interesting moves this offseason. The first was cutting veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. The other was bringing in a Pro Bowl running back. Going back to the quarterback position, Flacco did not look that great in his eight starts. He threw for 1,822 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions.
Lock started five games and looked much better, which is why the team is going with him this season. In those games, he threw for 1,020 yards, seven touchdowns and three picks. While there are plenty of quarterbacks ranked ahead of him, Lock is an interesting pick for those in 2QB leagues.
The Broncos seemed to be set at running back with Lindsay and Royce Freeman. The front office felt like they needed an upgrade and signed Gordon to a two-year deal. He rushed for 612 yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games. He and Lindsay will both be RB2s in most formats. Freeman is likely the odd-man out in the backfield. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s traded.
These wide receivers are young with upside. Sutton is at the top of the list. He had 1,112 yards with six touchdowns on 72 receptions. He had a better rapport with Flacco than Lock, but with a full preseason, that should change. No other receiver had over 600 yards or three touchdowns. It’ll be tough to draft one of these guys outside of dynasty leagues.
However, the Broncos’ tight ends will have some fantasy value. Fant was the team’s second-best pass catcher. He caught 40 passes for 562 yards and three touchdowns. Heuerman is more of a blocking tight end and won’t be a factor in the passing game. Fant could finish as a top-10 tight end this season.
