Louisville. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OT. Mekhi Becton. 14. player. 48

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be in the beginning of a new era in 2020 with Tom Brady under center. They will put as much focus as they can into surrounding him with enough talent to win a Super Bowl in what few years are left of his career.

Currently, Tampa Bay has Donovan Smith as the slated left tackle with Joe Haeg on the right. Louisville’s Mekhi Becton would be an improvement over either player as he’s the tackle prospect with the highest ceiling. Still, he will probably be available here as teams play it safe and possibly avoid Becton after his Scouting Combine drug test was flagged. With a limited window to win now though, the Bucs are a team that will be willing to take risks.

Becton has an enormous frame at 6-foot-7, 364 pounds, but is surprisingly light-footed and nimble. He has the athletic ability to succeed on either side of the line, in whatever role a team needs him to play.

Becton will need to learn to be more patient, instead of lunging and leaning at the next level. He will excel in all run block schemes thrown his way though. Weight and quickness will have to be monitored, as with all tackles this size, but the drive to compete for a Super Bowl in year one should be enough of a motivating factor to get Becoton on the field in Week 1.
