2020 NFL mock draft: Full 7 rounds without trades
The Miami Dolphins should look to upgrade their defense with the second of their three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. As a two-time Consensus All-American, and a two-time All-SEC selection, LSU’s Grant Delpit is surprisingly slipping out of many first-round mocks. Just a few months ago, he was viewed as the top safety in the class though.
Tackling seems to be the biggest issue NFL teams have with Delpit, but he claims that he was overcoming some injuries last season that led to his regression. Miami needs help at the position regardless, to improve a deep backfield of Eric Rowe and Bobby McCain.
Delpit posted 65 tackles, two interceptions and seven pass breakups in 14 starts for the national champion Tugers in 2019, but ’18 was even better. He won the Jim Thorpe Award with 74 tackles, five sacks, five interceptions and nine pass breakups. Delpit has great instincts and can be extremely physical when matched up against opposing tight ends. He loves to hit, and won’t be afraid to get right into the middle of the run game.
“LSU sources say NFL teams won’t be getting the alpha leadership Jamal Adams provided for the Tigers, but Delpit should find a starting role early in his career as a versatile safety with big nickel potential,” says NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein.
