2020 NFL mock draft: Full 7 rounds without trades
For now, the Baltimore Ravens will roll with Matt Skura as the 2020 Week 1 starter at center, but that could all change after the draft.
With Lamar Jackson cemented as a star in the league, the Ravens’ front office will do everything they can to set him up for prolonged success. Improving the offensive line with Cesar Ruiz at center could be a match made in heaven.
While the Ravens set multiple rushing records in Jackson’s MVP season, they have to move forward without Marshall Yanda at guard, meaning the line needs a change. Skura, a capable center, suffered a season-ending ACL, MCL, and PCL tear in Week 12, and you can never be too careful with protection and rehab. If Skura is ready to go for Week 1, Ruiz has shown the ability to play right guard and he could slide over with ease.
Ruiz is extremely smart and athletic allowing him to open up running lanes at the first and second levels. His pass pro doesn’t suffer because of that though, as he also maintains a strong base. There is slight room for polishing and improvement along with increased strength, but those skills can be developed in due time while playing at a high level in the league.
