Jacksonville Jaguars 2020 NFL schedule: 5 must-win games
2. Vs. Chicago Bears
If there is one game that Shad Khan will be playing close attention to, it will be Jacksonville’s home date against the Chicago Bears. The Jaguars have reportedly requested that the league protect that game from being played in London, so Chicago will have to travel to Jacksonville for this matchup.
The reason that this game is so important to the Jaguars is because it could bring a reunion with former starting quarterback Nick Foles. Jacksonville gave Foles a big-money deal after moving on from Blake Bortles after the 2018 season, but the signing turned out to be a disaster.
Foles broke his collarbone in Week 1 and was replaced by Gardner Minshew, who showed flashes of brilliance in his time as the starter. Doug Marrone controversially went back to Foles after he recovered, but the opening day starter proved to be ineffective before getting benched for Minshew.
The Jaguars dumped Foles’ contract to the Bears last month for a draft pick, giving Chicago a veteran insurance policy in case Mitchell Trubisky continues to struggle. Given Trubisky’s track record, there is a non-zero chance that Foles will be back under center by the time the Bears travel to Jacksonville.
It would look really bad for Jacksonville if Foles were to come back to Florida and play well in a victory for the Bears. That kind of effort could be a fireable offense, so the Jaguars would be well-advised to find a way to win at home against Chicago.
